Save Money With Refurbished Computers

In this day and age, nearly everyone needs some type of computer.  Even though in most cases computer prices have dropped quite a bit, it can still be a big expense to buy a new computer system.  People with more limited budgets may want to think about looking into refurbished computers.  Refurbished computers are ones that have been returned to the manufacturer or another shop for some sort of problem and have been reconditioned.  They are not simply used computers.  There is actually a big difference between a used computer and one that has been refurbished.

Used computers, come as they are, usually with no type of warranty.  They have not been refurbished or reconditioned by an expert.  They may have been returned to the original factory specifications, which can be done by nearly anyone.  Used computers are usually sold by an individual through the newspaper or through an online site.  This means that one is more likely to get something he doesn’t want if he purchases an ‘as is’ used computer rather than the checked and double checked refurbished computers.  Remember, with a used model, you will get what you get.

Refurbished computers, on the other hand, are generally ones that have been returned to the manufacturer for some problem or supposed defect. Reasons may include almost anything, but trivial things seem to be the most common.  People who are not very computer savvy seem to return them for little problems, that may be more a matter of not understanding how to use them rather than an actual problem with the computer.  They may even be returned because the purchaser found a computer he thought was a better deal and returned the first one he bought.  Sometimes it is even for a cosmetic type of defect rather than a functional defect.

Once the manufacturer receives them, they undergo a multi-point reconditioning process and numerous checks before they can be resold.  The memory has been cleaned out, and the hard drives have been wiped cleaned.  Usually, a new operating systems is installed and even all the outer surfaces have been polished up to look like new.  Most will also include a limited warranty. Although they will cost less than a brand new computer, you will see that they are actually just about as good as new.  You will usually find refurbished computers through the manufacturer, or even being re-sold in stores.

As you are looking into refurbished computers, look for a certification.  There should be a sticker located on the computer that includes the refurbishing company information along with the model and serial numbers.  Doing a little research on the company that reconditioned the computer will help you to know if they are reliable or not.  They need to be qualified and certified.  If you are dealing with an original manufacturer, you know you are getting the best people to service that particular brand of computer.  However, there are also a number of highly qualified businesses that recondition computers and often have better deals than manufacturers.  If you check out the background of the company you plan to deal with, you will be able to be confident in your purchase.  One can save quite a bit of money by purchasing a computer that has been reconditioned.
