The first thing to look for in a virtual dedicated server is the operating system that it uses.  You want this to be compatible with the system that you use.  Most will work with either Unix or Windows, so you want to know what you plan to use before you sign up for a plan with a different system.  The next thing you will want to look at is the amount of storage space you are allotted.  Depending on the size of your business and the amount of traffic and information that will be passing through your website, you may need as little as 15 GB of storage or you may need 120 GB of storage.

In addition to storage, you will need to be aware of the amount of RAM that you will use.  This can range anywhere from 1 GB to 8 GB.  Along with this is the bandwidth.  The bandwidth on a virtual dedicated server can range from 500 GB to 4000 GB per month. As you can see, it will all depend on the size of your operation and the needs of your website.
